Adult Style Learning is an important part of the BrightStart Workshop. Each parent is invited to bring his or her experiences, traditions, and ideas to share. Through the group process we learn from one another, as we affirm, question, challenge, and correct one another. The leader’s role is to keep the group safe, allowing each person to be heard, to stay on the topic, and to use encouraging words.
When we discover an idea or understand something in a new way, we are more likely to use what we have learned. The goal is for each parent to leave the workshop empowered with practical skills and ideas to use.
The group will include fun icebreaker activities to get to know one another. Using a flip chart we will record our ideas to remember what was shared. We will develop our own ground rules for each group and post it for use during the session. Each topic will be introduced and then discussed. Parents are encouraged to share the life experience and wisdom they bring to the group.
